The Secondary Curriculum

International Baccalaureate (IB)

At Parkfield School we will be offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), for our students aged 11 to 16. The IB MYP provides a framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, and become critical and reflective thinkers.

However, until the school gains full IB authorisation, which is usually a 3 to 4 year process, we will also be teaching GCSE subjects within the MYP framework.

The curriculum consists of eight subject groups integrated through five areas of interaction that provide a framework for learning within and across the subjects. Students are required to study English, a second language, Humanities, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Physical Education and Technology. In the final year of the programme, students also engage in a personal project, which allows them to demonstrate the understandings and skills they have developed throughout the programme.

The IB MYP will help our pupils find a sense of belonging in the ever-changing and increasingly interrelated world around them and to foster a positive attitude to learning.

At Parkfield School we will be utilising the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) for our students aged 11 to 16 and this will flow through to the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career Programme for students in the 6th Form.

The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) takes students forward with a balanced academic programme of study to prepare them for success in higher education and life beyond. The Diploma is taught over two years and has gained recognition from leading universities in the UK and around the world.

In the IB Career Programme (IBCP) students undertake a minimum of two IB Diploma Programme course plus a minimum of two level 3 vocational courses (equivalent to A levels). The programme leads to further/higher education (including university), apprenticeships or employment.

Extended school provision

To complement the teaching and learning at Parkfield School we offer an extensive extended school provision. There are a number of initiatives which we believe will be of benefit to our pupils and their families and these include both before and after school clubs, booster sessions, holiday activities and family learning.

We are offering an exciting and innovative range of learning activities and experiences outside school hours led by both our staff and by a range of external providers.

Before and after school care is offered by St Claires. More details can be found here
